The Diva II made better
Already impressive in its own right, the SP package supercharges the Diva II, making it a formidable turntable. Featuring a new DSP power supply, heavier platter, twin belt drive pulley and new bearing, the Diva II SP is comprehensively upgraded, giving an even more powerful and three-dimensional sound.
Upgraded power supply
Using the power supply from the high-end Volvere model, the Diva II’s performance is transformed. With a DSP (Digital Signal Processor) interface, motor speed is more precisely set. The power supply is calibrated to the motor, maximising torque and tuning out vibration. With the motor now optimised, you get a more dynamic sound with less background noise and enhanced transparency.
Isolated motor unit with twin belts
Housed within its own, solid steel casing, the high torque motor provides smooth and silent operation. This helps give your music the most accurate timing and it’s accurate timing that’s ultimately responsible for foot-tappingly good sound. The SP model also features a twin-belt pulley system. Twin belts help improve the pitch stability, giving a more holographic sound and spacious soundstage.
Weighted sound
An AVID turntable wouldn’t be an AVID without the distinctive record clamp. The unique, screw-down clamp weighs the record down, letting vibrations pass through to the chassis. It lowers the vinyl’s surface noise, letting the stylus track the groove as accurately as possible. A further advantage with using a weighted clamp is that it flattens most warped records – further reducing the potential for stylus mistracking and distorted sound.
Heavyweight platter
At 6.3kg, the Diva II SP’s platter is even heavier than the regular one. The extra mass further improves the bass and dynamic response. The cork mat damps vibrations while the ultra-rigid platter aids pitch stability and keeps the sounds precise, crisp and detailed.
Improved bearing
The SP continues its ‘parts raid’ of AVID’s more expensive turntables with the use of the Sequel and Volvere’s bearing. The inverted stainless steel bearing with sapphire jewelled point has no lateral movement, meaning you get a silent backdrop, rather than the faint rumble noise that can afflict inferior decks. Less background noise lets you hear more detail from your vinyl.
The backbone of the Diva II SP
Cast from large grain aluminium, the heavyweight chassis connects the tonearm and platter with great rigidity, helping to promote a detailed and musical sound. With the Diva II model, a coating is applied to damp high frequency vibration. This helps focus the sound, giving a more cohesive sound. Working in tandem with the clamp system, the chassis also sinks and dissipates any vibration from the record.
Triple layer suspension
Keeping your turntable isolated from external vibrations, such as speakers or even an amplifier is vital for the lowest distortion. In some cases, the stylus could even skip if vibrations become too extreme. Fortunately, the AVID uses one of the best vibration isolating materials in the business – Sorbothane. The bespoke compound is used to sandwich a high absorption elastomer damper, which combined with an additional layer in the feet, effectively damps away unwanted noise.
Classic design
Built to the highest standards, the Diva II SP is a classic case of form following function. Nothing is superfluous to the design, with the result being a minimalist and timeless style that looks as good today as it will in the future.
