Careers at Richer Sounds
Come and be a part of an employee owned business - while you work for Richer Sounds, you’ll have a real stake in the company’s future. Our customers are at the heart of everything we do. We’re passionate about music and movies and believe in providing every one of our customers with excellent service, great-value equipment, plus advice that makes their home entertainment come alive.
People who join our teams tend to stay with us for many years. That’s why you’ll see our colleagues’ years of service next to their name on our website and in our advertising. We make a big deal out of it because it’s a testament to both our culture and job satisfaction, and something we’re very proud of.
Our stores contain a remarkable number of budding musicians, DJs, and film buffs, fanatical about great sound and vision. We recruit based on natural friendliness and honesty, rather than high-pressure sales skills.
Tayla, Guildford store,
10th Year of Service.
We believe in maintaining a fun, equal opportunities working environment and want people on our team who enjoy working hard and playing hard, too.
Corina, Southgate store,
11th Year of Service.
If you share our love for movies and music and want to join us, we’d love to meet you. As long as you’re keen, enthusiastic and eager to learn, we can usually teach you everything you’ll need to know about hi-fi, home cinema and TV technology.
Olivia, Cambridge store,
6th Year of Service.

What you can expect from us
At Richer Sounds, we make sure that we provide our teams with the knowledge and skills to be able to help our customers, but that's only half of the story. We make sure our colleagues are healthy and relaxed, too. See below for just some of the benefits on offer.
The basics
We firmly believe that happy colleagues = happy customers and are committed to providing our colleagues with secure, well-paid jobs in a stimulating, equal opportunities environment. We are proud to be one of very few retailers to be an accredited Living Wage employer and absolutely oppose evil zero-hour contracts (unless requested by the employee).
As well as a competitive salary, all Richer Sounds colleagues start with access to a comprehensive set of benefits. These include rewards for excellent customer service, payment for contributions to our suggestions scheme, contribution to gym memberships, life assurance and disability cover.
Wellbeing
At Richer Sounds we believe that health is wealth and offer our colleagues a number of benefits designed to promote wellbeing. Among these are a subsidised gym membership or exercise classes, a ‘giving up’ incentive for smokers, contributions towards shoulder and back massages, chiropody sessions and subsidised dental cover. We also take part in the government’s Cycle to Work scheme.
We appreciate the value of a break and encourage all our colleagues to take their holidays. To help everyone to do this, we have seven holiday homes around the UK (plus five in Europe!) for colleagues to use for a nominal charge.
Perks
Every colleague gets their birthday (or next working day) as an extra day's holiday, as well as time off for their child's first day of school. Richer Sounds operates one of the country’s most recognised suggestion schemes, and actively encourages colleagues to submit ideas on how to improve the company. The vast majority of suggestions are financially rewarded. We also contribute towards driving lessons if you haven’t passed your test and, after you’ve been with us for a while, you’ll be eligible for colleague discounts on the products we sell. There are plenty of perks to working at Richer Sounds, these are just a small selection.
Training
If you’re not in the know about the latest in home entertainment technology, don’t worry! Friendliness, honesty, enthusiasm, common sense and passion for music / movies is much more important to us – everything else can be taught. We offer a comprehensive training program on the products we sell – our modules cover everything you need to know about our products, assisting customers and career progression through to Store Manager status.
Fun
As well as working hard, we believe in playing hard so our company provides a range of benefits designed to make sure that you and your team get maximum enjoyment while working for us. Among some of the things Richer Sounds provides are: a contribution towards a store or department night out every month, an annual, all-expenses paid outing for all colleagues that have been with us for four or more years, and we even operate a ‘bring your pet to work’ scheme.

Academy
Nathan, Head of Training, talks about learning through the Richer Sounds Academy.
Promotion prospects
Here at Richer Sounds, promotions are considered on ability, enthusiasm and suitability for the role; not just long term service. We like to promote from within, so our managers of the future are the people who work in our stores or support departments. To help us find the leaders of the future, we incentivise our managers with a bonus should they train one of their colleagues to be promoted to a store elsewhere. We like to work in a stimulating environment, with plenty of room for progression, so everyone can reach their maximum potential. As such, we actively encourage colleagues to assist at other Richer Sounds locations when vacancies arise, and we have relocation packages to help with this. In addition to adding a bit of variety, it also helps foster a sense of community.
Equal opportunities
Anca, from our Watford store, talks about equal opportunities.
Want to be a part of the Richer Sounds family?
We want to hear from passionate and enthusiastic people who are looking for a long-term career.
We believe in equality in the workplace, and we don’t discriminate on the basis of age, disability, gender, marriage / civil partnership, sex, pregnancy / maternity, race, religion / beliefs, ex-offender status, sexual orientation or personal background. We believe that our colleagues should reflect the many and varied types of customers that shop with us and society as a whole. Our team members have different life experiences - this strengthens us as a company and enhances our commitment to being a responsible business.
We may not always have vacancies, but if you’re interested in a quick chat and want to be added to our waiting list then please send us your CV with a covering letter (including a daytime phone number) stating which of our stores or departments are of interest to you: [email protected]
