Product Information
Enjoy ultimate sound, from an in-ceiling speaker, with the SpeakerCraft AIM285.
Designed to get the best from the latest home cinema formats
With ceiling speakers being asked to perform to much higher standards, the quality of design and engineering is more critical than ever. Object-based surround sound formats, such as Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and Auro 3D demand the utmost precision and this is exactly where the SpeakerCraft AIM 8 TWO Series 2 excels.
Aim the sound precisely where you need it
What marks these ceiling speakers out is their huge range of adjustability. Both the main woofer and tweeter array feature +/-15 degrees of pivot. Added to this, the tweeter array rotates by nearly 360 degrees – giving you unprecedented levels of sound directionality adjustment.
The power of Kevlar
The AIM 285 builds on the 283 model by using a Kevlar woofer. This increases the frequency response giving you deeper bass and more depth from your music or cinema effects. With a frequency response that now drops right down to 33Hz, this in-ceiling speaker has the range to match many floorstanding speakers. The aluminium tweeters are retained from the 283, giving the same precise detail at the top-end.
Quad tweeter array for enhanced clarity
Rather than using just one tweeter, the AIM 285 incorporates four. Four tweeter units build up the intensity of high frequencies, which is especially important in a ceiling speaker as the top-end can often sound ‘lost’.
Focused sound through WavePlane and Vortex Eliminators
Working together with the tweeter array, WavePlane technology acts as an acoustic lens. The powerful high-end response is focused across a broader area than usual, giving a wider spread of full-range sound. Vortex Eliminators reduce the ‘tunnel effect’ of traditional ceiling speakers meaning everyone in the room gets to hear all the detail.
Adjustable treble
Depending on your room’s acoustics and personal taste, you can boost or reduce the treble response by +/- 3dB. If, for example the room has a hard floor and is sparsely furnished, a drop in treble output may be desirable. The counter is often true for heavily furnished rooms with thick carpets and curtains.
Part of a family
As part of the FIVE level speaker range, the AIM285 is sonically matched to the rest of the speakers in the range. This means you can use different models in other rooms, or even the same room, without there being a change in key sound characteristics.
Perfect for reference quality home cinema and multi-room audio, the SpeakerCraft AIM285 performs to the highest standards.
